Day Seven - Support

The day started with a pumping energiser from one of the participants. I think everyone needed it to wake up and start the day properly. The first session started by the explanation of the Johari window and after that a reflection exercise based on the following two questions was done:
  1. What am I good at?
  2. Where do I want to be in the future?
This was a solo exercise and the participants had to go anywhere they wanted in the vicinities of Svycarna and reflect on the above questions. This lasted for half an hour. An important fact is that the participants were not allowed to talk to each other during the exercise. This was easy or normal for some people but it proved to be quite challenging for the talkative types. The group then reunited to discuss everyone’s thoughts and reflections. I think this was beneficial for me as I don’t have much time to ask myself these questions. I felt that this was also the case for the other participants.
After coffee break we did a Belbin test. Everyone had to score personal points to statements on a sheet of paper and then it would tell you which personality type you were. This was a good personal appraisal test but I heard that some participants did not understand some of the statements and thus unreliable results were produced.

The second session was dedicated mainly to coaching. One of the trainers introduced the main stages and characteristics of coaching. The session then proceeded with an exercise the participants had to do in couples. Basically it was one and a half hour long. In the first 45 minutes one participant would be the coach of the other one, but he/she couldn’t give advice but just ask questions to his/her partner. They then swopped roles in the second 45 minutes. This was really interesting as firstly I think everybody got to know the other person better. However, more related to this exercise, the participants got a feeling of what it means to be a mentor and also practice the type of questions to ask in such situations.
The day ended with a session on Erasmus plus.
